Every year, the County of Riverside and the Coachella Valley’s nine cities honor senior citizens 65 years of age and older who demonstrate a zest for physical and mental well-being through volunteerism and active engagement in the community. The Senior Inspiration Awards luncheon is a beloved tradition that was established by former Riverside County Supervisor Corky Larson in 1992 as a way to recognize Coachella Valley’s unsung heroes. The tradition has continued with Supervisor Roy Wilson and Supervisor John J. Benoit.
The 2017 Senior Inspiration Awards will be held on March 24, 2017 at the JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort & Spa in Palm Desert (74-855 Country Club Dr.), marking the event’s 25th year. Eleven extraordinary seniors will be honored.
The event is planned by the Senior Inspiration Awards committee, consisting of representatives of the nine cities, the Riverside County Office on Aging, the Regional Access Project Foundation and Brittney Baird from Supervisor Benoit’s office. Jean Benson chaired the Senior Inspiration Awards committee for the first 16 years, followed by Indian Wells Councilmember Larry Spicer in 2011 and 2012. Palm Desert Mayor Jan Harnik has chaired this event since 2013.
Attendees leave the lunch inspired by the accomplishments and optimism of the honorees. The Coachella Valley is fortunate to have a senior population that is so active in our community.
Tickets are $30 per person; a table of 10 may be purchased for $300. Tickets are on sale online through Eventbrite: seniorinspirationawards2017.eventbrite.com. Tickets are also available to purchase by calling Brittney Baird at 760-863-2556 and sending a check payable to "Regional Access Project Foundation" to: Brittney Baird, 73-710 Fred Waring Dr., Suite 222, Palm Desert, CA 92260.
